5 Job Hunting Mistakes You Should Avoid In 2020

If you don’t want your job hunt to be a demoralizing, difficult, and futile attempt, you have to cut out several mistakes. The fact is not many potential employees know what they’re getting wrong. They seem to fulfill all the requirements, have a splendid-looking resume but still can’t land a job.

If you’re one of such people with an unsuccessful job hunt in 2019, avoid these 5 mistakes to stand a better chance in 2020. To wit…

1. Beating Around the bush

It’s 2020 and employers are even more interested in what you can bring to the table. What value can you add to their organization? Rather than go on and on about all you’ve ever done, focus more on what you’ve accomplished.

Employers are particularly interested in the main features and highlights of your ability to fit in to what they have. This means you’ll be better served when you indicate areas of your career that generate more interests.

2. Taking Rejection Personally

Rejection is definitely part of the process. So taking it personally does more harm than good. If you faced a lot of that in 2019 but took it the wrong way, let your job hunt in 2020 be different. Sure, it’s not easy getting a reject mail or not receiving a feedback. This should help you prepare better for the next job search, and possibly push for a favorable feedback.

3. Applying for Every job

Applying for every job you come across sets you up for a big fail. This is because doing so makes you lose focus. Also, you begin to appear desperate when you hop onto every call for applications.

Taking shots for the sake of it doesn’t mean you get to score. Same thing applies to job hunting. Instead, you’ll put off potential employers especially if you can’t keep track of all your applications. What’s more, you might forget to align your resume with information useful to any specific organization.

Avoid applying for every job out there. Take your time to research on fewer applications, and follow through on them.

4. Not Standing out from the Competition

Job hunters often have one thing in common. They all sound alike. This is disadvantageous especially when there’s a scramble to fill few positions. What you want is to be unique and different from the rest. This you can do by outlining your achievements.

The fact is the responsibilities attached to job openings are the same for all applicants. What stands you out will be your achievements and skills that leave you better-placed to get hired.

5. Downplaying Talents and Achievements

You really want that job but downplay your obvious skills and talents for some reasons. This includes low self-esteem, fear, and not wanting to sound arrogant. However, you shouldn’t be afraid to shine or let people know just how good you are. In any case, most employers will still put you to the test. So it makes no sense to keep your talents and experiences secret.

Final Thoughts

2020 could be the year you get that dream job. Avoiding these mistakes is definitely a bold step in the right direction.

PROTEST: Oro Youths Vow to Blow-up Oil Pipelines

Youths of Oro Nation in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria have vowed to blow-up oil pipelines in their area to show the state government that they were core oil producing community.

In a six-hour protest in Oron main town yesterday, the youths under the aegis of Oro Youth Congress called out Akwa Ibom government "to immediately end the criminal exclusion of Oro from core oil producing community and oil bearing area of the state".

Speaking at Uya-Oro Junction, the central entry point of Oro Nation, the convener of Oro Youth Congress, Lovestic Esu, Esq pronounced "a 14-day ultimatum for both the state government and ExxonMobil to implement the resolution of the House of Representatives in recognizing the five local government areas of Oro Nation as oil bearing and oil producing."

"Where they fail to meet our demands, we have no option than shut down oil pipelines of companies operating on our soil. We can't be producing the wealth of the nation and we continue to live in poverty", he said.

Also speaking, a social crusader Omen Bassey, Esq and a youth activist, Mr Patrick Edeke stated that while Mobil and other oil companies have operated in Oro community for over 50 years, the Nation has been marginalized and made to suffer unmitigated environmental degradation.

The duo who lamented the level of poverty, hunger and joblessness among their people, even when "multiples of strangers were offered employment opportunities in the oil companies", insisted they "must immediately be gazetted as host community and oil producing community".

In their separate speeches, the President, Oro International Youths Forum, Christian Nyong, Esq, his predecessor, Dr Sunday Odokwo and the President, Amalgamated Voices of Oro Youths, Noble Francis Otioro, together with the President, Oron Union, Women Wing, Mrs Felicia Essang Oludare stated that Oro's peaceful nature must not be taken for granted as Militancy and Boko Haram were not by birth.

They opposed the "criminal torture and oppression of Oro people by the state government, saying it was time to change the story. "We've been peaceful for too long and our peace is too costly. All we need is our rights", they said.

Similarly, the President of Oro Youths Movement (OYOM), Comrade Victor Mkpofor pointed out that the protest was "a signal to all security agencies, including the Inspector General of Police, the Director of State Security Service, the National Security Adviser, among others that Oro people were pushed to the wall and were ready to fight back".

Comrade Mkpofor maintained that having watched the state government take Oro land to build airport which they can't access by reason of road block, added that apart from the struggle of oil producing community, Oro will not sit back and watch the government build a seaport on their land and water, while the gate is built elsewhere.

It could be recalled that a resolution of the House of Representatives passed in 2012, sent to the federal executive council and further endorsed by the then Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, had mandated the Akwa Ibom State government and other agencies of government to recognize Oro Nation as oil bearing and producing community.

Recall also, that the House of Representatives had last week, through a duly endorsed letter, reiterated its call for the Akwa Ibom government to implement its 2012 directive of recognizing Oro as oil producing and causing oil companies within its shores to pay reparation to the Oro people.

Oro Nation, the larges federal constituency in Nigeria, is made up of five local government areas of Oron, Urue Offong/Oruko, Mbo, Udung Uko and Okobo.

FG Warns Nigerians Against Using Microsoft Windows 7

The Federal Government has warned Nigerians on the dangers inherent in the continued usage of Microsoft Windows 7.

The warning was contained in a statement on Friday by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, through his Technical Assistant, Mukhtar Sadiq.

He said the warning is necessitated by the decision of Microsoft to officially end support for the Windows 7 Operating System (OS).

Naija News recalls the tech giant announced official support for Windows 7 came into effect on 14th January 2020, and the company will no longer provide technical support and security or software updates for the platform.

“Systems running on Windows 7 OS will continue to work, however, they will be progressively more vulnerable to viruses and malware.

“In light of this, the Minister is alerting the general public on the risks of using Windows 7 powered devices for internet-based services that require the use of sensitive information such as internet banking.

“The best way to remain secure is to use the latest Operating Systems available”, Microsoft warned.

In the light of this, the ministry, therefore, called on all Windows 7 users to take extra caution in protecting themselves from breach of privacy and loss of data.

Steps to be taken include keeping security software up to date, keeping all other applications up to date and being more skeptical on downloads and emails accessed so they can continue to be safe online.

After moderating a  session of the International Summit Council for Peace (ISCP), where many serving and former Heads of Government made intense and exciting  contributions  on how to heal our troubled world, I got my faith renewed in the belief that more commitment is required from all stakeholders in the pursuit of global peace.

Niger State Civil Servants Commence On Indefinite Strike

Minna – Civil Servants in Niger State Government’s payroll are set to begin indefinite strike following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum given to the state government to implement the new minimum wage across boards.

While the ultimatum was on, the state government, according to findings, commenced payments for lower cadre of civil servants, GL 1- 6, blaming its failure to pay other categories of workers on paucity of funds.

Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, it was gathered, had also claimed that 80 percent of the state revenue was committed to payment of salaries and allowances, insisting that if government pays the minimum wage across boards “civil servants will smile but other citizens will be at the receiving end”.

Rising from an emergency joint State Executive Council meeting which took place at the Labour House on Monday, the NLC directed all civil servants in Niger State to proceed on an indefinite strike effective midnight, February 4, 2020.

A memo to that effect, which was made available to journalists, also declared thus: “You are to please note that the strike shall be comprehensive and will remain in force until the government addresses the following lingering issues:

“Demonstrate a clear and adequate commitment on pension administration in Niger State including recovering the funds embezzled by previous administrations”.

“Immediate resumption of payment of outstanding annual leave grants for the year 2019 to desirable workers at both the state and local government Councils”.

“The immediate implementation of N30,000 minimum wage, its consequential adjustment and accrued arrears to all category of workers at both the state and local government area levels.”

The statement jointly signed by the state NLC chairman, Comrade Yakubu Garba, and the state Trade Union Congress (TUC) chairman, Comrade Tanimu Yunusa, however, urged workers to be law abiding during the strike and refuse to, “engage in any form of protest.”

The real reason US suspends Immigrant travel Visas on Nigerians.

It has little or nothing to do with Boko Haram, has nothing to do with Buhari, has nothing to do with arrest and detention of journalist, has nothing to do with Nigeria’s ban on gays and lesbian, but has everything to do with absence of a workable system in our identification and verification processes.

The main reason Nigeria is suspended from Immigrant visas category is because Nigeria does not have a credible background investigation system that groups like Interpol can rely on to vert and certify originality.

What that means is that if someone commits a crime in lagos and relocates to Kano, there’s no system that can be used to track crimes and people across state lines.

Virtually all African countries have such systems even Ghana has it, Cameroun everyone has original birth certificates but nigeria prefers to have multiple identity cards not because they are interested in monitoring and tracking people but because they want to make money. Our country is a transaction society, you can buy anything even the human conscience.

Most responsible modern states in the world have tracking systems, but nigeria does not. A typical example, if you are about 40 years, if you go to your primary school to get your records they don’t have it. Principals and headmasters do not have computers in the 21st century.

Now only states that are considered rogue nations or failed states that do not have workable systems. Most nations in this category are nations at war. Nigeria is not at war but the irresponsible nature of our government makes Nigeria a war zone.

Now, back to US suspension, let me make it clear that only Immigrants visas are affected. Non immigrant visas are not affected. An immigrant visas is a type of visa that allows you to stay, work or even become a US citizen after you travel.

This category involves the type of visa you get when you marry an American citizen and have to relocate or the type of visas given to parents when their American citizens file for them or the visa you get through lottery.

Another category of visa affected is birth visas, these are medical tourism visas to come to America and have a baby. It is those categories of visas that are affected. Some waivers do apply. However, non immigrant visas  like visitors or business visas are not affected, however going forward it will be difficult to get

What America is saying is that we cannot continue to give immigrant visas to your people if our investigators have no tools to work with to verify the true identity of your immigrant populations.

Example, someone who wins lottery or marries a US citizen, the investigators will want to check him up to primary school, but we have no records. Our government should be ashamed that we do not have a reliable working system to track Nigerians instead of deceiving the people to assume it is unfair what US has done.

Our government should be ashamed that today we are grouped with countries like Eritrea and Sudan. A sensible country, what they should be doing now is to put such a system in place, but they will not. Last year, two of my American friends visited Nigeria and came back with Nigerian international passports. That can never happen in Ghana or even Liberia. But with money you can buy a mans conscience in Nigeria.

With as little as three to five hundred dollars people are ready to subvert the law and do the unthinkable. With just Ten thousand Naira anyone can get local governments origin letters, worst still, today traders who never stepped their legs in universities are given degrees and people even serve youth service with fake results. If you are America will you continue to give immigrant visas to a country you cannot verify a simple certificate?

If you are America will you continue to give citizenship to immigrants whose entire documents for relocation to your country may have been forged?

We forge ID cards, we forge bank statements to get visas, we forge birth certificates, we forge marriage certificates, we forge election results, what is it that we do not forge?

We should not blame the US, the truth is we have failed as a nation. More disturbing, those who are clamoring that we need a working system are those who are arrested and locked up on frivolous reasons, charged with hate speech and ostracized by society.

According to my good friend Frank Anoh, he says we are a nation of criminals. I somewhat would agree with him. We are a nation of criminals. However, I blame my generation more, we continue to subvert the system for a plate of porridge. Until this independence era politicians leave the scene, Nigeria will continue to operate in the 16th century. God help our nation, once referred to as the giant of Africa. This is entirely my opinion.(Dr Patrick Nwasoria).

Lagos: Narrate Your Trekking Experience This Morning

Narrate your trekking experience this morning

What a day .
Oshodi 500
Obalende 800

How much is my salary?
I went through hell this morning trying to get a bus to convey me to Eko Hotel from CMS. On a regular day, i take a bus for 100Naira or 150Naira but on getting to the bustop today, it was an eyesore and i eventually paid 500Naira to get to Eko Hotel. I honestly hope something is done soon to help the masses. A BRT Bus came and upon seeing the kind of crowd at the bustsop, he decided to help and asked us to come in. At the point of payment, the other oficials, said the ticket available was for 250Naira and people began to move backwards because we were already used to paying 100Naira.

He said he only had a ticket for Ajah and he was just going to follow Eko Hotel and drop us off. People couldn't pay and we watched an empty Bus leave the terminal.
Please help us provide BRT busses that will drop us off at Eko Hotel with a ticket we can afford..Help us please cause i'm not sure we can survive this.

Tankers have claimed so many lives in Lagos yet LASG hasn’t even bothered to enforce existing traffic laws that restrict their time of operation.

Insecurity: Buhari, Ahmed Lawan, Gbajabiamila In Closed-Door Meeting

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), is meeting with the leadership of the National Assembly.

The President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila, walked into the venue of the meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, at 3.04pm.

The agenda of the closed-door meeting is not disclosed officially.

However, The PUNCH gathered from credible National Assembly sources that Lawan and Gbajabiamila came to formally hand over last week’s resolutions of both chambers on the state of insecurity in the country to Buhari.

Recall that last week, the House had urged the President to sack the service chiefs.

On its part, the Senate sought the declaration of emergency on insecurity.

“The Senate President and the Speaker are here to present the resolutions to Mr President.

“They also will hear Mr President’s answers to take to their colleagues in the chambers on Tuesday (tomorrow)”, a National Assembly official informed The PUNCH.

APC Crisis: Gov. Obaseki order arrest of embattled APC Chairman, Oshiomhole

NEWSAPC Crisis: Gov. Obaseki order arrest of embattled APC Chairman, OshiomholePublished 18 mins ago on February 3, 2020 By John Owen Nwachukwu

The Edo State Government has submitted a petition to the Inspector-General of Police, and Department of State Services, DSS, for the arrest of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

The Governor Godwin Obaseki-led government also wants the former Governor prosecuted by the security agencies.

Oshiomhole is accused of constantly disobeying the State government’s orders.

This was disclosed in Abuja on Monday by the Deputy Governor of the state, Phillip Shuaibu.

The Deputy Governor, however, stated that the Edo ex-Governor is still his father, adding that their present differences did not change that fact.

Oyedepo ‘rains’ curses on Miyetti Allah, suspected bomber, Boko Haram

Founder and General Overseer of Living Faith Church, Bishop David Oyedepo has placed a curse on the man who attempted to bomb his church in Kaduna State.

Recall that the Kaduna State Police Command had on Sunday arrested a suspected suicide bomber inside a church located at Sabon Tasha in Chukun Local Government Area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Yakubu Sabo had confirmed that the suspect named Nathaniel Samuel was a Christian from Bauchi State.

Sabo had said the suspect was arrested inside the church with a bag containing items suspected to be Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)

Speaking on Monday at the Church’s Covenant hour of prayer, Oyedepo said Nigeria has never been this vulnerable.

The cleric who boasted that God confirmed his prayers said woe to anyone involved or connected with the callous killings in the country.

He decreed that the generation of members of Boko Haram, Miyetti Allah is cursed.

”The most irresponsible, most murderous system, is what we have today and in the name of Jesus by the Apostolic authority upon my life and Prophetic seal on my forehead, your end has come.

”We are here this morning to celebrate Jesus for delivering us from so great a death’.

”There was a failed attempt to bomb one of our Churches in Kaduna yesterday.

”This agent of the devil already entered the premises, found his way to the toilet, (but “who delivered us from so great a death”wink, was accosted and arrested.

”One, that’s a proof that God is in our midst. It shows that God is in our midst and we are here not to assume but to celebrate his faithfulness.

”To tell this Nation as they would expect me to do, the last straw that will break the back of everybody in authority, backing these callous killers has come.

”To tell everyone behind this: your days are numbered. This prophet is saying the Kingdom is taking away from you. It’s impossible for these killers to be on the loose without some authorities backing them up.

”So many precious lives have been wasted in the last 2 weeks and in the name of Jesus, the generations of those involved is declared wasted.

”I don’t care: Boko Haram, Miyetti Allah, whatever name you are called, I decree the curse of the Lord upon you now.

”Everyone in government, everyone in security services, that is behind these killings: YOUR END HAS COME.” he added.

Top 5 Ways To Help Build Up Your Self Respect At Work

Respect : a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.

Respect for others and towards own self is gradually been erased in this modern lifestyle. I think respect should be key part of each society. Respect for each other tastes, preferences, choices. Many people fail to realize that we have to respect all including cleaners, cooks, waiters, drivers, gatekeepers , gardeners etc, for us to truly earn respect. I have a couple of real life stories about this down this post

Treating others with respect shows at the first place who you are. Showing respect for someone means showing admiration to the person. Respect is the highest ethical degree for human communication.

Yes, but don’t confuse respect and politeness with letting them take advantage of you. Stand your ground! Respect and Trust are always earned by extending them to others!

No matter your age, experience and status, if you are someone who respects others out of habit more opportunities open up for people and what’s more? You start a chain of maturity. Because respectfulness is contagious

Dear Bosses: There is so much respect in getting credit alerts as at when due too. It is inspiring and motivating. No one is due respect because of their title or because they say so. You earn respect and it is earned by treating others the way you would want to be treated as the old saying goes. You get back what you give.

You may want to disagree. saying this works well in theory, In some view, It is more complicated way to earn respect to act like you share your sympathy with themselves. People treat their own motivation as the no.1 need. You may respect others, but if you failed to identify their goals, they will think that you misjudge this ability’s meaning.

But Agree Manners cost nothing! They go hand in hand with being respectful with this and don’t forget about self respect too. As the saying goes, who goes comes around. There are some things money cannot buy among them is respect.

It’s time to ask your heart to make some room and start wearing your self-respect on your sleeve too.

Here are my personal top 5 ways to help build up the respect in yourself.

1 – Don’t let other people’s opinions affect you

2 – Always stick to your own moral codes

3 – Never speak negatively about yourself

4 – Increase your knowledge

5 – Always keep your promises

For me personally, I think it’s difficult to show respect to others if you are lacking self-respect.

Learning about self-respect is understanding that you are no less than anyone else and you too are worthy of love and respect.

Self respect and love to one’s self is the basic component for self esteem. You can’t give love and respect to others if you don’t know how to love and respect yourself. It is important to not confuse self love and self respect with narcissism and ego-centrism.

You may want to add 6, 7, 8 as i have explained in the blog post …. which definitely include minding your business, cutting your coat with what’s available to you

This what will happen if you eat three eggs a day.

Eggs have gotten some bad press over the years for really no good reason at all. Many tout about the fat content. Others scream horror about the cholesterol contained in the yolk. And then there’s the hormones contained inside eggs simply because they come from the the unfertilized cycle of a female chicken.

The truth of the matter is, eggs are incredible, and have earned that title just by being themselves. What’s better? You can eat several of eggs a day and reap a whole carton-load of benefits — and that’s no eggs-ageration.

In fact, one large hard-boiled egg contains:

Vitamin A: 6% of the RDA
Folate: 5% of the RDA
Vitamin B5: 7% of the RDA
Vitamin B12: 9% of the RDA
Vitamin B2: 15% of the RDA
Phosphorus: 9% of the RDA
Selenium: 22% of the RDA

Eggs also contain decent amounts of vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, vitamin B6, calcium and zinc
You will also earn yourself This 77 calories, 6 grams of protein and 5 grams of healthy fats.

And just to sweeten the deal, we’ve put together a list of some pretty cool things that will happen to you if you start eating not one, but THREE eggs a day.
